In the centre of this picture the waterworks building and chimney can be clearly seen. Promptly at 1 o'clock the hooter would signal lunch time. This could be heard all over the village. To the right Mill chimney is still standing. This card was posted in 1927.

Tiner Peggs lived in his caravan on The Green situated at the back of 'The Hollies'. Whena robber tried to steal his savings, Peggs badly cut his hands with a chopper.
Before the days of automation. To the left Grandad Page who lived at 'Millions' (opposite Hill Farm). What a majestic sight these powerful beasts must have made.
A golf flag on the Green denotes part of the golf course. Mr George Keeble remembers "At lunch time we used to come from school to caddy for the officers hopefully for a few coppers." Officers from Colchester Garrison were regular visitors to the village for their round of golf.

Stack Fire - Essex County Standard Sat 1/9/06
On Sunday a fire broke out at the premises of Mr Kirkwood, nr Hollybush Hill. It seems that an infant son had somehow gained possession of some matches with the result then in playing with them he ignited some stacks. The Clacton Fire Brigade were quickly in attendance, having accomplished the journey from Clacton in about 25 minutes after recieving the alarm. A pond near the burning stacks was quickly utilized and the fire was brought under control at about 5.30pm. A post carrying electric cable and standing about two yards from the fire escaped with small injury. The stacks were insured.
Poultons Supply Stores and Post Office which until recently was occupied by Alexinas Hair Saloon. Note the number of staff employeed. Mr Poulton produced at least two books of photographs of the village to sell in his shop.

Miss Dorothy Went affectionately remembered in the village for her music and singing lessons. She organised outings as treats for her pupils. Miss Went is seated at the centre.
